Officially the Aukey SK-M12 Speaker, this boom box sports dual 5W speakers, up to 30 hours of playtime and support for hands-free calling. Sound quality is respectable and priced at just under $50 at Amazon, the Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker is also budget-friendly.
Nov 04, 2017 Product Manual PDF: Aukey DR-02 D Dual Dashcam Manual PROS: Very small size, all black, discrete, great day video from both front and rear cameras. Rear camera day video quality is excellent, among the best rear cameras among the dashcams I tested. Mar 16, 2016 Aukey EP-B4 – Features. The Accessories: We said that there are several water-resistant rubber pads and perspiration, of different sizes to cover different sizes of ear canals, which vary subject. Along with these rubbers are obviously an instruction booklet and several arches, which are also to be chosen to have greater comfort based on the morphology of your ears.
The Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker comes in measuring 8 x 3.25 x 3 inches and weighs just shy of two pounds. The metal mesh facing and backing is accentuated by the black rubber framing. Control buttons line the top of the speaker with ports and a lanyard loop positioned on either end of the speaker. On the bottom of the speaker is a 1/4 inch screw to allow the speaker to be mounted on a tripod or pole.
Ports are protected by a rubber flap that keeps the speaker water tight and includes a micro-USB port, 3.5mm audio jack and a reset button.
The rubber surface of the Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker offers a bit of cushion to protect the speaker from minor falls. The rubber can also be a dust magnet at first but with a little use, that static attraction begins to fade.
While weighing 1.9 pounds, the Aukey speaker feels lighter than reported and is not burdensome to carry around in a backpack, tote or by a carry strap. The fit and feel of the Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker comes across as solid and while not shock or impact resistant, it should hold its own against day to day use.
The speaker is listed as water resistant and it survived getting doused by the water hose without skipping a beat. Aukey does not offer any ratings on the level of water resistance, but I suspect splashing is okay, but submersion ends the party.
The Aukey SK-M12 Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker comes packaged with a USB charging cable, 3.5mm audio cable, the owner's manual and a reset pin.
Performance
While the design and build quality of the Aukey offers no concerns, the audio performance is critical to the speaker's appeal. Under the hood of the Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker are two 5-watt speakers that are powered by a 2,600mAh battery. The feature set is somewhat modest with controls that include volume/track management buttons, a call button, a power button and a menu button.
Pairing is initiated when the Aukey speaker is first powered up, otherwise you need to (with the speaker turned off) press and hold the power button for two seconds. There is a small LED light on the face of the speaker that flashes blue to confirm the speaker is in pairing mode. Once paired, this light shines a steady blue.

Aukey Dual Dash Cam Manual
Playback is controlled through the + and – buttons to navigate through the tracks, with long presses of these buttons controlling the volume. The call button is used to answer or end calls or pause playback. The menu button was a bit of a mystery. With no reference to this button in the owner's manual, we reached out to Aukey for clarification and learned that the menu button controls an enhanced bass option. Press and hold the 'M' button until you hear a garbled chirp and your music has a bit more bass to the sound. The increase in bass is slight, noticeable but not overwhelming.
Speaking of phone calls, the Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker does have support for hands-free calling. The feature set is minimal with hands-free controls only including answering, ending and rejecting calls from the speaker. Each controlled by the call button.
The controls aren't overly complicated but too many of these buttons pull double duty. I can see it being frustrating to press the + button to advance the music tracks, only to see the volume increase. There is enough real estate on the top of the speaker to accommodate track and volume keys, a play/pause button, a call button and the power button.
With regards to speaker performance, the sound quality from the two 5-watt speakers is good. As you would expect, the Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker belts out the tunes twice as loud as the single speaker Bluetooth units. In using the speaker on the back porch or the dock at the lake, I had no issues enjoying my music files. Battery life is rated at 30 hours of playback and in using the speaker over the past few days, I won't disagree with the factory rating.
Overall Impression
The Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker (SK-M12) is an attractive option for those looking for an external speaker for use around the pool, on the back porch, on the lake or at the beach. The water resistance can give you a little peace of mind should the speaker get wet. The rubber exterior does offer limited protection from minor bumps and bruises. Just keep in mind that the Aukey is not rated as shockproof the way the Mpow Armor Plus is rated.
Even indoors, the Aukey Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker can be a great audio accessory for listening to videos, audio files and your music files. The appearance is discrete enough to blend into your office décor or propped up in the living room.

Audio quality is good and belts out the tunes with a little gusto. I did not experience any distortions in testing the speaker and sound performance had a nice balance of bass and treble. The hands-free calling support is limited, but a nice touch. I would like to see the button selection expanded to eliminate the current double-duty most of these buttons have.

Speaker has rugged build, big sound
I have had the luxury of testing numerous Bluetooth speakers, headphones, earbuds and have found some winners and some that really could use some additional R+D. It is really refreshing to find a system that has good battery life, good full sound at a good weight rating. It is important to note that you tend to get what you pay for and your speaker quest will change depending on the intended use. For example, you may get better sound out of a device at the cost of weight and reduction in waterproofing or you may get improved waterproofing and have to sacrifice light weight and maybe some sound. I have been in a search for a good well-rounded speaker for camping, but not hiking. I am going to get a projector for my iPhone and I want a good speaker that will play movies with some good base. I have found this in the Aukey. If you do not believe me, listen to Apollo 13 Launch on YouTube (1995 Movie with Tom Hanks). The bass sequence and the music is amazing. Also, listen to the Gladiator Soundtrack and try to hide the smile.
Packaging:
The product comes in a white slip cover with a very nice representation of the product on the cover. Either side of the slip cover provide the model number and that the product is a portable wireless speaker. The back of the slipcover details a few of the specifications, a QR code linking you to their website, email information and the product tags. Under the slip cover, the packaging is a very plain brown cardboard rectangular box labeled “Aukey.” The sides of the box are labeled with “Go green with Aukey.” Opening the lid, the large speaker is visible wrapped in a layer of thin foam. Beneath the shaped cardboard spacer is the User Manual, 24.5″ USB A to USB micro charging cable and 24.5″ 3.5mm to 3.5mm Jack. The instruction manual provided is well written and is quite refreshing. The first six pages are written in English. They also included instructions in German, French, Spanish, Italian and possibly Chinese (I do not recognize the character differences).

Device:
The speaker is very eye-catching with black rubberized outer shell, silver speaker cover, and red accents at either end. One end has a red plastic loop, to hang the speaker if desired (hanging cord/strap not included). The other end has a thin red rubberized cover to protect the 3.5mm AUX Jack, the USB micro charging port and reset button. The top of the speaker contains 5 buttons: M (menu), power button, phone call/end, + (volume/next track), – (volume/previous track). One of the things that I dislike about the device is the orientation of the short/long presses. Unlike most of the device I have tested, this has the short/long presses for the + and – buttons reversed. Typically, short press changes the volume and long press changes the track. This does take some getting used to as the volume change is quite sluggish and clunky. The easiest way to change the volume is by using your device to increase/decrease the sound.

The speaker weighs 1 pound 7.1 ounces and measures 8 1/8″ long X 2 13/16″ wide x3 1/4″ tall. The bottom has a screw port for a tripod/base (not included). The container of the packaging appears to be at least IP64, fully dust protected and splash resistant. The device will not be submersible but may survive shallow drops or quick recovery from water. Despite the robustness of the speaker, there is no mention of IP rating in the manual.
Before you use the speaker for the first time, the instructions instruct you to charge the device fully. To do this, lift up the little red flip on the end and plug the USB micro cable into the speaker and the USB end into a USB socket. The speaker will come with some charge from the factory and it takes about 6 hours to charge. I found this to be accurate, requiring about 4 hours of charging out of the box. There is a red LED light above the K in Aukey on the front of the speaker. This will turn out when fully charged. The instruction manual notes that this will provide about 30 hours of playback and operates at standard Bluetooth ranges. There is no mention of prolonged life with AUX input, this may provide an additional period of time, I did not test this as I am interested in wireless features and not wired options. The included battery is a 2600mAh LiPo battery.
To pair the device, hold the power button for 2-3 seconds. You will hear a series of ascending beeps. Go to settings on your device, Bluetooth and select Aukey SK-M12. When paired, you will see a blue LED (Red while charging) just above the K in AUKEY on the front of the speaker. A really nice feature, that is mentioned in the manual is the auto-off feature. If no connection is found within 10 minutes, the speaker will shut itself off. I like that you can answer/end and reject calls with the machine, it makes this speaker a perfect pool/shower speaker. Unfortunately, it does pick up a lot of ambient noise and makes you sound like you are in a tunnel. You can hear very well, the sound on this device are quite full and loud. My wife noted that she could hear me but it was weird. This feature is just okay. I do not think that I will use it and it does not detract from the device.
Sound:
I try to find devices that are full sound and provide a good amount of bass. I dislike tinny sound and really dislike sharp sound. Having grown up playing the Euphonium/Baritone, I have been a huge fan of instrumental music. My favorite soundtracks have been Far and Away, Gladiator and Braveheart and of course anything by John Williams. The opening sequence to Star Wars episode 2, has some amazing bass. In fact, this little speaker generates sub bass sounds as the ships enter into Coruscant. One of my all time favorite bass sequences is from the Dark Knight Rises soundtrack “Why So Serious” Joker theme. This has amazing highs and lows and is a great tester for your speaker’s bass abilities. The speaker passes all of my sound tests and really surpassed my expectations. Caribbean blue-Enya is another wonderful example of the fullness of this speaker.

Aukey Dr02 D
Summary:
The Aukey speaker really does pack a lot of sound in a little package. It is a little on the heavier end of the backpacker/camper world, weighing more than a pound. Personally, this is now my camping speaker. It has moved into my motorhome and will go with my family and I camping. I have no fear of leaving this outside in the elements. I really look forward to my projector and testing this while watching and an outdoor movie. I rate the device at 4/5 stars, losing a point for the +/- short/long press differences. There was no mention of the dust/waterproof status or why there is an included Menu button. When you press it, it seems to take you to a less full, higher pitched/less bass mode. There is a noticeable difference in the sound quality and fullness after pushing the M mode once. It seems that the two 5W subwoofers are either both on or only one is on with the mode changes. Despite the limitations, the sound output is quite strong and the speaker is well built. I really do recommend this speaker.
